Engraved Little Bear

I just got this one back from engraver Joe Mason. Joe won best collaboration knife at the Knifemakers Guild Show in Orlando just a few weeks ago. Nickel silver fittings. Beautiful leaves and vines with lots of gold inlay.

Here's an old timer with engraving by Ron Skaggs back in the days when you could get an ivory Randall in about 9 months.

And here's a more recent Little Bear also with Joe Mason's engraving and gold inlay work. It's my favorite Unicorn handled knife
before:

and after:

last two photos are By Joe Mason. Regards, Doug

Here's another early 90's knife with inlay scrimshaw by Rick Bowles and engraving by David Perdue. This was one of my very first Randalls and I bought it out of the show case at the shop. The cases were filled with knives including several scrimshawed by Rick.

regards, Doug

Oh My Doug! You shouldn't ought to have done this. I was off of bears and on to threes. Now look what you and 222 have done. Beautiful knives, exquisite engraving and excellent taste in your choices.

Thanks Seuss. Three's and Bears have lots in common. Beautiful curves on both. I see a 3 as a reverse Bear (or vice versa.) Regards, Doug

Superb Knives, Doug!

Thanks for sharing.

However, you state that in the early 90s: "This was one of my very first Randalls and I bought it out of the show case at the shop. The cases were filled with knives including several scrimshawed by Rick."

This is just too painful to let go by. How could you do this to all of us RMK latecomers?
Shame on you!

Cheers!

Moosehead

Boy Ron, I don't know what you'd call it other than "stupendous." What a beautiful blade. In fact, what a beautiful knife and sheath. Those guys at the shop are absoloutly artists! Thanks for posting it.

David, Yes, those were the "good old days" You walked into the shop, the cases were filled with knives, leather, stag, brass, nickel silver, ivory inlaid, scrimshawed by Rick Bowles, some were even already engraved by David Perdue.

However, before you get too mad at me for mentioning those days, please note that I did not mention what the knife cost. In those days that knife cost only Regards, Doug

Here is a Raymond Thorp in ironwood that I just received today, all brass hardware with brass and red spacers. It is a real beauty

Superb looking Thorpe, Peter!

Look after that carbon blade with a good polishing of Renaissance Wax, unless of course you're planning to use it when strolling the streets of Philadelphia.

Cheers!

David

Good god... a very old line... nice ebony Bowie there Bill. Unique and beautiful sheath.

Is this line just for "bearing" it? Here is my only Bear, 1971 vintage. The sheath shows that mottled look that sheaths from this era display sometimes. I wonder if it is residual Ren wax, or something with the leather of the time? Notice it is not around the snap or where regular touching would be expected.
