Bowie conducts a Hammer-in twice a year just outside of Knoxville that draws a lot of local and out of state knifemakers. Great place to gain some knowledge and make some connectoins. Might check and see when James plans his next one, down in the "Outpost" section here at KNF.
I conduct two Trackrock Hammer-ins a year, one late March and one late Sept. in Blairsville, GA not all that far from Knoxville...same deal on opportunities. I post announcments here and in the Georgia Guild section. The date for the fall event is the last weekend in Sept. Send me a pm if you want particulars or to be placed on the email list.
There are alot of makers in ETN, WNC and NGA, probably multiples in almost all towns. You just have to ask around a bit at woodshops, hardware stores, barbershops, etc.
I knew Bob over in Coker, very talented gentleman. Used to stop and visit on my way out Tellico Plains drop off some fresh trout. My hideout over in Hanging Dog is not all that far from Coker (as the crow flies), just don't get over that way often anymore.

Hey Teddy. I'm in the same state but I'm up towards Akron (Wooster technically but I'm assuming you do don't where that is), and thats about 3.5 hours away... you might as well be in a different state, Kentucky for instance

Albuquerque: Trade knifemaking lessons for brewing lessons.

You teach me how to improve my fledgling knifemaking skills and I teach you to brew beer!!

I brew all-grain, 5 or 10 gallon batches, grind my own grain and keg the final product.

So, if you want to take some time out of your schedule to let me learn from you the finer points of knifemaking, I will return the favor and teach you what I know about brewing beer.

Just let me know by pm on this site.

Thanks.

Dennis

I knew a knife maker named Bob Hardin from Coker Creek, TN. He was a great guy. He and I had plans of him teaching me the trade but due to unfortunate events I had to move from the area and lost contact with him. He has passed away in the last couple of years. Very sad. He was a great artist.

I hope to learn as much as I can from this site!

Thanks!

Hey hawkeye I live in East Knoxville. I started fooling around with making knifes about 13 years ago when living in Georgia. Just started back again. I have a few knifes ready to finish, just waiting for weather to warm up. Have read a lot and am ready to get back at it.
