Back at it!
Hello all,
I've been away for awhile, and haven't done any work on knives in close to two years, but having a daughter will do that. I am reinvigorated and back at it after repairing some kitchen knives for my mother. I dug out some leftover steel from a botched knife attempt and repurposed out into a marking knife for woodworking or maybe top use for leather work. Sort of a kiridashi design, from what I have seen online. I still have to heat treat and do final finishing. There will be no scales, but I might wrap it with something like wire....I don't know yet. The holes drilled in were from the botched previous knife. I'd have preferred not to have them but too late. Also, I finally bought some appropriate leather from tandy and tried my hand at a small sheath for this little work blade. Here's some photos. Thanks for your suggestions and input in advance |

The edge looks pretty thin so if you haven't done the HT yet you might experience some warping.
The stitching on the sheath looks nice and eve. On the next one though, you might get a stitching groove tool to make a trough along the path where you plan to stitch. This lets the thread sit lower in the leather instead of right on top. It might make a more interesting sheath on the next one if you followed the shape of the knife rather than just a rectangle. Aside from these minor criticisms, the workmanship looks really good. Let us see it after you get it finished ... |
