TYPHOON kit

Hello i was directed here from the Talkblade forum by Benny The Blade ,I'm looking for some help with my TYPHOON kit.
I assembled it and the squeeze is great in the open position but in the closed position the blade edge is slightly proud from the handle and the latch is "to long" to stay closed because the squeeze is non existent and the handles touch.
The blade position when closed is such that the spine is touching the back spacers on the safe blade handle.
Is it possible to increase the diameter of pin used in the blade (for the closed position)?
Will this cure the problem?
I am a little disappointed in the closed position of the knife but the rest is great and just begging to be customised.
This is my first bali and I would appreciate any help.
Cheers

Have you filed the tang pin cups at all?

No i just put it together.
I have swapped the handles around and when closed the blade sits better in the handles but the squeeze is still not sufficient to keep the latch in place.

You need to file the cups...

Over in the Kit Knife forum, at the top of the page is a listing for knifekit.com FAQS...

There are several postings there that will help you fine tune your Typhoon...Here's the link:

I think you'll be even happier after a little "tweaking."

Cheked out the FAQ and i read the instructions.
They tell you how to file the cups to reduce the squeeze.
I don't have enough squeeze to begin with!
Pics are my thang so i look forward to posting them when i get this one finished.
Cheers rb

It could be a manufacturing issue.

You ought to shoot them an e-mail asking for their opinion.
Maybe a replacement part is in order...
At the knifekits.com website, go to customer support and contact them via e-mail from there. They're usually very good about responding quickly.

Or you might want to post an open letter to DR over in the Kit Knife forum...word might get back to him more quickly from there.

Sorry guys,
I should have let you know,i took Osprey Guy's advise and contacted knifekits.com.
A very quick response from one Darrel Ralph none the less and after an explanation of the problem and the situation a replacement is on route to me as we speak.
A real genuine guy and someone who is obviously concerned about his customers and his products reputation.
I will definitely be trying more of these kits .
Did i read somewhere on here about an auto kit or an auto conversion to his kits?
Cheers

Just to bring you all up to speed on the TYPHOON kit.
Darrel Ralph sent me a complete replacement kit FOC.
I offered to pay the postage and he wouldn't hear of it.
The replacement is perfect ,with a nice even blade grind (the first one was slightly off on one side) and the squeeze is great.
I have to say this really is great customer care.
As far as the kit is concerned , i thought the first one was good even with the minor complaint about the squeeze but this one is better and i am really impressed with the knife.
I don't have other balisongs to compare it to but against folders and auto's in it's price range it makes a great knife.

Thanks for posting your experience on this... I've been planning on ordering a couple Typhoon kits and your post has given me the confidence to give it a go.
