Typhoon by Dave Bettencourt

This one was done by Dave Bettencourt. I can't say enough about how nice this one is. I only wish the images showed it better. The handles are laser engraved and the pocket-sides are engine turned. The blade is mirror finished and the knife is totally clean all the way around ... really nice work Dave!!!

More photos of this one are on our site ... Look Here

Now there's a handy tool: A LASER ENGRAVER!

I'm off to Harbor Freight to pick up mine.....

All joking aside, this is another example of just how versatile and creative folks can be, starting with the same 'canvas'. Thanks for the post, and congrats to Dave!

I want one. Not the Typhoon, but the laser engraver!!!

Coop: Let me know if the one from Harbor Freight works out...

Very nice job. I can't imagine the lines of coding needed to pull that off. Sweet.

Thanks everybody for the compliments on my typhoon. I've been a lurker on the forum for a few months now and I figured I'd come out of hiding to thank you all. This was my first kit knife and I was very impressed with the quality of the kit. I did all of the work on it myself (helps to have a dad with a complete machine shop in his backyard ) The handles were sanded to 500 grit and then sandblasted. The lasering on the knife was done with the YAG marking laser that we have at work. The laser is about 10 years old and doesn't have a graphical interpreter, so I had to hand code all of the lines. It took at least 5 hrs or so to translate from graph paper to the computer. The latch was ground down with my dad's surface grinder and the engine turning on the inside of the handles was done with a mill and an abrasive bit.

I had fun putting this balisong together and based on the quality of the kit, I ordered a couple of folders to experiment with.

Thanks again guys. Oh, and thank you Alex for taking the pictures, Duane at EDC for getting me the kit, and Mr. Ralph for designing a sweet bali kit

Exclamation

Dave that is really classy.., yet keeping the design aspects simple and "tidy"....not "busy" or gaudy looking" at all!

That is really impressive, and a good example of how creative lots of Bali-Nuts are.

Hmmmmmmm...., back to the drawing board....lol.

Raising the bar in parallel with the whole concept of quality "Kits" is what Darrel had in mind.., and that's simply a terrific example of thinking outside the box and turning your thoughts into reality.

Congratulations, and thanks for sharing it with everyone!

...... and for the pictures Alex....

Oh my Gawd! It's breath taking!

You know, the more "really good stuff" I see with the Typhoons, the less I want to begin on my own one. I know it won't be any good at all...

Oh well, maybe it will increase in value over time. It is, after all, still mint (ok, not quite, but almost ).
