Steel Supply

I was just wanting to get a thread goin' that ppl could put Their favorite steel supply on. I think it would be a great tool for newbies and experienced makers alike.

Just put the type of steel and supplier and how to get in contact with them. Thanx guys and gals.

Admiral Steel http://admiralsteel.com

Good points: fast shipping, well packed, good selection stainless and carbon steels, custom cuts (I bought 3" wide S30V).

Bad points:
S30V is sheared - so the edges aren't crisp

ATS-34 < 1/8" is cold rolled, clean and smooth, like they say. But in final finish there is a visible grain. I kinda like it, but it's not good for a mirror finish.

Still I like 'em. It's the only place, outside of Crucible you can get a good selection of S30V.

Steve

They have better prices than Admiral sometimes, but shipping is expensive. They have a minimum order of $26 or so before shipping. I get Carbon steel (10xx), so I don't know what they have in stainless.

I have currently used Industrial Metal Supply to get my O1. They also cary A2 in stock. Both are in 3' lengths. They can order just about anything. I need to check with them on prices for 1084 before I order some online. Hopefully they can get me a competitive price.

Does anyone know of a supplier of NON-precision ground O-1 steel??? I forge all of my work, and quite simply do not need the added expense of precision ground steel...who cares what the exact size is when your heating and hammering to shape...

Tool and Die sells O1 round stock. 3/4" x 36" rod for just over ten bucks. 1/2" x 36" rod at under five bucks if you buy two or more.

Well...assumming you have about $3 steel in each blade and you sell each knife for an average of $175, how about making $29,225 worth of knives!?
