Starting out with hand engraving!

Hey guys, the wife is interested in trying hand engraving with a chasing hammer and such I don`t know all the terminalogy, but I`ll try to get my point accross.
We have a chasing hammer and some handles with some 1/8" square cobalt& hss bits that are 3" long. What I need to know is what are the most popular edges used and what do they look like. Bare with me here but Where exactly is the face and heal of the cutter and what angles do you use for engraving steel bolsters on folders.

Living up in Saskatchewan suck for trying to get books on this stuff, our Library has nothing, neither does our large book store

Any other hints, tips and or links would be greatly appreciated.

Ron

Hey Ron!
Here's a site that looked interesting for that hand engraving! I don't know anything about it but sure looks purty! Looks like I have something new to read.http://www.airgraver.com/introduction.htm

Here's one approach Ron.

Fig. 1.) Basic square graver blank.

Fig.2.) Face ground to 45 degrees and excess removed from top.

Fig.3.) Profile view of modified blank.

Fig.4., 5. & 6.) The tip is further modified to create the lift necessary to clear the work.
I use a ceramic square file to put this angle on.
In the process...the cutting area of the face
is changed from 90 degrees to 100-110 degrees or more if you like.

Fig. 6.) By adding a slight roundness to the tip, you'll add more strength when cutting harder metals.
You can also grind the face to 50 degrees to increase that strength.

Note: The secondary angle in Fig. 5. is only filed back about 1 thousandths of an inch long.
The extended heel would be about 3-4 thousandths.
