How To Finish Wood Handles
Hello Everyone, I'm new to knifemaking and have almost completed my first knife kit. I've formed and sanded my dymondwood handles but would like to get some help on how to finish them i.e. protect the wood from the elements and polish them. I've read some articles on the subject and have heard tips such as using layers of super glue to wood sealant to bleaching the wood and staining it, etc. Thanks for your help! Best Regards, Pete |

Pete, first of all, welcome to CKD. Dymondwood has the protection built in, in the form of the resin that impregnates the wood. All you have to do to it is sand it to at least 800 grit (2000 is better), and buff it to a high luster. |

Thanks for the welcome Don and the help! What would you recommend for buffing (type of compound)? I only have access to hand-powered tools except for my dremel tool. Much obliged! -Pete |

standard white compound works just fine, and a loose muslin wheel on a power drill will buff it up bright. |
