informal "newbie" introduction.

Just wanted to introduce myself---Mike---nowhere near a knifemaker, but from the things i have read here, at least i think i have found the road that may take me there.
I have, at my own pace, built a propane forge and burners (all from pieces and parts collected on the cheap and adapted to fit and work as needed.) It seems to work well and was an enjoyable project in itself. Been test running it, and pounding out some metal to get the "feel" of how it all works and such.
The more that i read about all this, the more i find what little i know and how much there is to it all.......but i figure if i just take it slow, read and study, practice/practice/practice,
maybe someday..................!!
thanks for all the good info provided here ----- azmike

Welcome Mike! Sounds like you are taking the right approach. Read a lot, ask questions when you need to, use the Search button, and priactice. You'll get there.....

Hey Mike, welcome to the boards. Looks like you're on the right path, I joined up here a little over a year ago and didn't even have the beginings of a forge. Actually, the guys on here were kind enough to give me several pointers as to how to get by on the cheap.

I'm still a newbie too, but I try to help when I can. I hang around a few forums and I've found ckd to be the best of all, you really picked the right place. So many talented people here, at all stages, and it seems like every one is willing to help any way they can.

My first question here was probably asked 100 times before me, and for some reason or another I didn't find the answer when I was searching. When I asked it, I expected to get the standard "use the search function newbie" and "oh another one of these", but what I got instead was guys like Ray Rogers, Stephen Vanderkolff and Bob Warner giving me ideas and encouraging me. You're going to find a lot of great info on here, and you might just find a few great people too. Good luck!

Howdy

Nice to meet you Mike- theres alot of street smarts here on the site. The few artisans I've visited with here are fantastic. And willing to help those of us just starting out. They don't do it all for us- but are there when we need them.

Welcome!

Julie

Welcome Mike,

Wish I was in Tucson right now. Grew up in Tombstone and know Tucson well. Used to work in Old Tucson (heard it burned down).

There are some good people there that frequent this forum. You might want to e-mail Tai Goo and ask him who all is in your area. He would know them all.

Welcome to the best teaching forum you will find.
