New Linerlock and a Question for the Pro's

I have made 2 linerlocks in my whole time , this one being the 3rd.
I wanted to make one that would be a bit more affordable, but still uses top quality materials, I think I will have achieved that goal.
I came up with this design, a bit stole from a POS EDC I had , and the rest from my imagination.
8.5" OAL , 3.875" Blade that is .154" thick , .050" Ti liners , a piece of crappy damascus I had laying around, that hardened well ( the rest of them will be CPM S30V ) and G10 handle material.

Here is the question I have had since doing some research on the web.
Why do they say the detent should be taller than the washers used on the pivot ?

THanks for looking

Nice knife, Dwane.

I've never heard that said about the ball. If it is taller than the washer, then it wouldn't let the blade close. It would be forced against the handle material.

Now, some makers do make the ball stand a little higher that the washer, but they grind away some material on the outside of the lock bar to compensate.

If the knife has no scales or bolsters, it probably wouldn't hurt to have the ball stick out a little more.

Im not even close to being a pro, but in my limited experience I always make the detent ball a few thousandths lower than the washer (about .004" shorter).

Without exception, on my folders if the ball height is the same or higher than the thickness of the washer than the blade will not move.

BTW that is one sweet knife you have there!

Thanks for the comments fellas.

IDK , I must have gotten it shorter , because the blade functions perfectly.

Thanks again
