rawhide knife case
helllo this is the first time i posted or asked any quistion. I have been looking and learn, i have bought how to make knife cases dvd by chuck burrows loved ,and learn alot from it

Howdy Snake -
 VERY nicely done including some fine beadwork!.. The native way of sealing rawhide was using either a thinned mix of hide glue, which you can make yourself by simmering rawhide scraps in water, or the juice of the prickly pear. The Euro way was using some type of varnish, the most appropriate modern version being oil based marine spar varnish. If you're not overly concerned by authenticity than any good quality wood finish such as a quick drying satin polyurethane will work fine. BTW - since you're interested in native inspired sheath I'd suggest checking out the book "Plains Indian Knife Sheath" by Alex Koslov - it's available from Crazy Crow - www.crazycrow.com and at around $15.00 bucks is an excellent resource.
