Tulip Santoku
Blade - Tremblay W-2 with hamon
Spacer - Water buffalo horn Handle - tulipd wood with mosaic pin from Jantz Japanese style santoku Got this done the other day so figured I'd post it, all that's left is to sharpen it up. It may end up being a gift for a friend. Quite pleased with how it turned out, so feedback is welcome. Going to try to get the hamon a big higher on the back end of the blade next time. Blade was taken to 600 grit etched and then polished with red iron oxide in mineral oil, repeated a few times. Any questions feel free to ask... Comments and critiques are welcome. Mate, the cutting edge looks perfect for slicing. The handle is an eye opener as well.
Can you buy flat blade W2 ? Where? I reckon there would be some Chefs very interested in that. Cheers,Clive. Last edited by Clive's Knives; 06-01-2008 at 12:49 AM. Reason: Incorrecr name |

The steel was purchased from Tremblay Tool steel, I'd bought a number of various size of W-2 drops from them, they had some bars as well, which I may have bought one of, seems like it...anyway, I'd taken a couple of the bigger pieces with me to Bowie's last fall and drew them into more manageable sizes of bar on the press. This was made from one of those.
The tulip wood was bought on sale at Woodcraft, it was one of their long turning blanks, think about 2x2x12 or so. Thanks for the comments Clive =] |
