I made an edge burnishing tool
Let me tell you about it.
I have some thick brown canvas Micarta (2"). I used a 1&1/2" dia.hole saw to cut a 1&1/4" thick "wheel" from the block of micarta. I then mounted this wheel on a 1/4" steel rod and chucked it into my drill press. I shaped the face of wheel concave with a round file and sanded it smooth with sandpaper, (120, 220, 320, 400 wet, 600 wet) I just tried it out on a sheath I made this evening and wowie zowie! You can barely tell the edge is made up of multiple pieces of leather. I ran the burnisher at about 1100 rpm, didn't push real hard and kept the leather moving. I could never get an edge this smooth by hand. Drew __________________ Gun control has no value other than making it easy for the powerful to oppress the weak. What ever the radius is of the round side of that file is the radius of the face of the wheel. Drew __________________ Gun control has no value other than making it easy for the powerful to oppress the weak. The personal weapon is the one thing that distinguishes the freeman from the serf |
