Detent Ball question
I thought I posted this question a couple of days ago, but I cant find it anywhere so I am posting it again. I have read the tutorial on liner lock folders and I do not understand the purpose of the detent ball. Would someone explain this to me? |

It holds the blade in the closed position, so it won't swing open while it's in your pocket. |

Is there also a detent on the blade to "mate" up with the detent ball to hold the blade closed or is it merely a tension function? |

No, a shallow hole is drilled on the face of the ricasso into which the ball seats when the blade is in the closed position. |

Don's right on, thanks Don. I want my detent ball to rest in the edge of my detent hole so the blade will suck in tight. Think we need a tutorial on this? hmmm... |

Hey guys let's not forget that it is now the law here in California that all one handed opening knives need a ball detent or some other mechanisim that holds the blade in the closed position. Mike |
