? for the kydex guru's

Hello all,

I was wondering what thickness of kydex would be best for some fixed blade knives with about 3"-6" blades? also is it advisable to use thicker material for your belt loops?

Thanks.
Mike

I'm no kydex guru but I've made several kydex sheaths. I prefer .063 for smaller blades (up to 5" blade), .09 for larger ones and .09 for the belt loops. Most of the knife supply places sell it in 1sq/ft amounts so get one of each. I'm working a on bunch of fish fillet knives that are 7" blades I'll be using .08 concealex on.
Hope that helps.

I use 080 Kydex for most sheaths and belt loops, 093 for some of the bigger knives. A lot depends on how you are going to use the knife and sheath. No one thickness is going to work for all jobs, but THICKER IS STRONGER.

Hey Guys...

I use 60 for small knives, in special cases 80.
80 for larger knives, neck rigs, and different things, and 90 for some loops and special projects...

Hardly ever would i use 90 on a sheath body. It's just not needed, and can cause problems with the proper function of the knife, i.e. Stiffness..

What Frank said is correct about no one thickness is best...

Thicker is stronger,, but in some cases where there needs to be some flexability, thicker can be a problem

hope that helped..

ttyle

Eric...
