acorn nuts

Does anyone have a finished product using acorn nuts?

I picked up 2 to take a look at and there's some interesting things I found on them. The ends are drilled 7/32" deep but the only threaded 1/8", that's a 3/32" gap. that means grinding off more than 1/8" on the tip will result in a hole 3/32" wide. Seems somewhat strange on that one unless im missing something here.
