This question really doesn't belong in this thread since it is a completely different subject, you should start a new thread. But, that isn't a total deal killer either so here's one answer:

No. That is most likely a complete non-starter, a waste of time, money, and resources. For damascus to work well, you need to know what you're using. Otherwise, you may be trying to mix metals that won't etch differently enough to show a good pattern or, even worse, steels that won't heat treat close enough together and will tear your welds apart when you quench your blade.

You don't say whether or not you have any forging experience yet. If not, you don't want to start with damascus and certainly not this way. If you do have some experience then call Kelly Cupples and order some steel to make damascus. The basic stuff is 1084, with some 15N20. Doesn't get much simpler or easier than that.
