"Ammo Section"

After I made PFC(E-3) the hard way, I asked for and was allowed to change jobs from the
Command Center(AADCP) to the ammo section. They thought I was nuts, 'cause the ammo
section was nothing but hard, grueling work.No one ever asked to go there, they were usually
banished there for committing infractions.Kinda like the"Dirty Dozen....We would load ammo out of
underground bunkers and haul it to the gunnery range over on the pacific beaches.
We had two btrys of M42 anti-aircraft vehicles that shot 40mm shells out of their twin barrels. We also had two HAWK missile btrys...4th Msl Bn, (HAWK-AW)517th Arty was our unit.
After the soft life working in the Command Center, I was getting back in shape...We were a
ragged bunch to be sure, but as long as we kept our trucks up, no one messed with us....
