Help with welding bolsters
I am about to pull out what little hair I have left on this slipjoint. I used my HF 220v spot welder to weld the nickel silver bolsters onto my stainless scales. Welded in 4 spots for just a second each. Annealed the bolsters with my torch. Checked to make sure they were firmly attached and I was able to work them loose with just my hands.
What do you think I did wrong? The scales and bolsters were absolutely clean and flat. I thought the spot welder would be just the ticket for quick and permanent bolsters. Any help would be appreciated! |

For one thing, you tried to weld dissimilar metals. I suggest using only 416 pins and bolsters welded to 410 liners.
If I remember correctly, nickel silver is mostly bronze. Too bad, but a lesson learned.... The next ones will please you. Please post your WIP on this forum so that we can see. Last edited by Don Robinson; 02-28-2012 at 06:52 AM. |
