EIG Fighter

I always wanted one of these Italian made Iron Mistress looking fighters. I got the chance to pick this one up cheap and grabbed it. Anyone know anything about them? Very cool design with a sharp swage and a strong back. Your hand just melts into the handle for a very secure grip. Another one I would like to have is the Italian copy of the Randall Model2.

Yeah this one is in pretty poor shape. I am going to see if I can tighten up the handle a bit and clean it without ruining the patena.

Found time to take it apart. Now let's see is I can find time to fix, clean and put it back together.

After tightning up the leather washers I now have a 1/8" gap to fill. A black Micarta spacer should do the trick. I have been meaning to make a tool to tighten this type of butt cap nut. Might as well do that first so I don't bugger up the nut.

If only these old things could talk.
The dims are 7 3/4"x 1 1/4". Sharp swedge is 2 3/4". 3/8" thick on the spine, with evidence of hammering.
I know what you mean about being strange looking. I thought they were downright ugly for years, but they kinda grow on ya. To me they are sort of the poor mans Iron Mistress. A similar shaped blade was used for the model for the movie prop knife. I used to have pics of the prop knife, but I crash so much they were lost. These Eig brand knives were made in Italy, Germany, Japan and I think, Spain. Edgebrand also made a real similar if not exact pattern. Here is a pic of an Iron Mistress repro for comparison. What do ya think?

i can see the similarities.... specially on the pommel area... and profile.. (cept the obvious hilt difference and spine)

however... the clip is different. in the way that it drops abit and the runs parallel to the spine... some of Ray Richards bowies... and Gibs.. have this morphology

and the grind on the blade towards the hilt...... woof... how the did that, is beyond me...

it kinda looks like the did a hollow grind with a very small wheel to get that ledge... ?

Greg

some dudes like a very thick spine on a knife.....if you have to hack through heavy bone when butchering.... you can whack the spine of the knife with a stone to drive it through the bone.......

Yikes! Seems the strength of this blade rests on a 3/8" x 1/4" tang. Weird that something that looks so strong can be so weak. I don't think it would take very much lateral pressure to snap this blade at the hilt. Should we test it? or try to fix it? Any ideas on how to try and make it stronger?
