Building a MAPP gas small forge

Think I have this right, but let me know. Taking a #10 can, boring 1/2 hole in the side for the torch tip. Mixing a ratio of 1/2 plaster of paris to 1/2 sand into a thick paste. Spreading it out about 2" thick. Does this sound about right for a small forge? I just need to heat the metal hot enough to take a bend out of it (Leaf Springs). Any input will be greatly appreciated. I'm a guy who is used to oxy/act. Heck I used to put a rosebud tip on the end of the torch for this, only I don't have oxy/act here.

I doubt that the plaster of Paris will hold up for long. You either have to get some ceramic matting, like Kao-Wool, or a small bag of Missou or Cast-O-Lite castable refractory to coat the inside with. If you use the ceramic matting you will need to put a thin coat of a castable refractory or a high temperature mortar over it to keep it from releasing particles of the ceramic that have been exposed to fire.
