Any chance there is a non-blurry photo of the stamp at the base of the blade?

Steel Addict- You bet. My camera doesn't do a great job up close, but I'll see if I can borrow a camera that does good close in work and I'll get the photo posted!

Doubt it's a copy or reproduction.....looks very "original" from pics posted.
Nice find. __________________ Carl Rechsteiner, Bladesmith Georgia Custom Knifemakers Guild, Charter Member Knifemakers Guild, voting member Registered Master Artist - GA Council for the Arts C Rex Custom Knives Blade Show Table 6-H |

I'm thinking that it might be an original, but getting a better picture of the blade markings will help narrow it down.

The knife is a typical North Africa/Moroccan style Jambiya known also as a Koummya, most likely 19th Century albeit the style is much older - the engraving is Arabic but I don't know the translation.
You might want to check with whom you bought the house from and find out if anyone in the family served in the military in North Africa at any time? Most probably a wartime souvenir. Of course that could open up a can of worms about ownership..... If you've ever seen the movie "The Wind and the Lion" - the kid gets a similar piece from one of the bandits - like the one in the movie and yours this type is often sharpened on the inside of the curve rather than on the outside. You can see several more via Google here https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...rp.TBCN5fGSu5g This one is quite similar http://compare.ebay.com/like/3506250...Types&var=sbar As you can see prices vary considerably as does quality, so I would recommend contacting a good dealer like Oriental Arms http://www.oriental-arms.com/index.php for finding the value. Until you know the value DO NOT overclean or polish it - patina is often a plus when it comes to collectibles. Wipe down with oil or wax is best until you know more. __________________ Chuck Burrows Hand Crafted Leather & Frontier Knives dba Wild Rose Trading Co Durango, CO chuck@wrtcleather.com www.wrtcleather.com The beautiful sheaths created for storing the knife elevate the knife one step higher. Chuck has the right of it, also check in with any local colleges/universities in your region that have a archaeology or history department.

Chuck beat me to it. Jambiyas are really cool knives, and very eclectic in their appearance. Yours is awesome.
Well worth the research to find out what you can. Beautiful piece. |

This string is a little old, but I finally found a camera that does a little better job up close re the inscription. I don't know what it says/means!

After digging a bit more I've come up with nothing.
Send some emails out to the local colleges with archeological and anthropology departments, see if there are any antique dealers in your areas, and lastly try posting it to http://www.jasonsjunk.com/ Good luck! |

Thank you. Will do! I'll let you know if I find anything else about the knife.
