Work table height
I am continuing to upgrade my shop which presently includes moving all the grinders and such to a seperate room. I have some heavy galvanized metal with 1 1/2 inch 90 degree turn-downs on the edges that I plan to use to mount the machines. My question is, using the tool rest on a KMG grinder as a height reference point, how high from the floor should that tool rest be? I'm six feet tall. I imagine that there are several logical opinions on this matter, and I would appreciate hearing from all of you who would like to opine!! As always, thank you for your responses. Hadley Perdue

For mounting height on grinders, I recommend that the height should be equal to.....
YOU standing comfortably in front of the machine, with your elbows bent, with your hand against your body, as if you where grinding the bevel on a blade. If you use a work rest, some folks like that a bit higher than what I described, but for the most part I do my best to have my grinders mounted as close to the exact same height as possible. This might involve "shimming up" the grinder, or making the bench top lower. For example, the bench that my grinders sit on are 39 3/4" from floor to benchtop, but I still had to shim up my KMG approx. 1 3/4" to get it "right" for me. For my second grinder, I had to actually cut the bench top down to 37" to make it fit me. __________________ WWW.CAFFREYKNIVES.NET Caffreyknives@gmail.com "Every CHOICE has a CONSEQUENCE, and all your CONSEQUENCES are a result of your CHOICES." |
