Dissapointed but not dead
Made a fine blade. Took lots of extra pain with it because it was a gift for a friend.....symetry of the blade was excellent. All went well until......I put the carved swamp ash handles on it. I mixed the epoxy and applied it and applied the handles. Inserted the pins and clamped the handles but......they would not go tight against the tang. Epoxy was allready hard. I was angered. Looked at the epoxy container and guess....it was devcon....sets in about two minutes......My mistake I don't know how one could do it but I did. Next....what do I do now. Can I break the pins loose and get the handles off? I could fill the small gap.....less than a 16th of an inch but I would not be happy giving this knife and I would know that it is not my best work. All suggestions are welcome. Thanks |

Put it in the oven at 150 - 175 degrees. The epoxy will soften up. |

The heat will soften the epoxy. Next take your supply of epoxy, dig a shallow grave, and bury it!! Then go buy some J-B Weld. It takes a bit longer to set, but it will not let you down like Devcon will. |

j b weld
You are so right. I have JB weld in the shop and use it to put on guards the solderless way. I will use it on this knife as soon as I get the handles off. I hope that they are not runied. Thanks |
