Spring rods
I don't know what they are called, thus the "spring rod" title but where can one get that spring rod used in many lockbacks? I have used some from factory knives but have never found the material itself. I think it may be 3/32 or so. Any help?

I think what you're looking for is piano wire, Dave. It can be bought from most of the suppliers or your local Ace Hardware stores.

Okay, thanks and that is a new one for me. It is actually used in a lot of lockbacks as the spring for the locking bar. Just never knew it was called "piano wire."

Hey DaveL,
Texas Knifemakers Supply sells flat spring material which I like much better than the round music wire. If you are looking for the music wire, another good source is at hobby shops like Hobby Town. Here is a link to the flat spring material from TKS. Spring Material from TKS -Chris |
