Scroll layout
Hey Guys,
I bought the entire GRS system with microscope...I was wondering if anyone can explain an easy way to layout scrolls...my drawing skills are poor....I am hoping to soon have and operation, for health reasons and I will have to take it easy for a while....so I am planning on practicing my engraving during the healing process....any help would greatly be appreciated...you guys amaze me with your engraving skills..... |

Hi Rene,
The "easiest" layout method would be to purchase the scroll design templates GRS has. I would suggest getting a copy of Ron Smith's " Understanding and Drawing Scrolls" before that though. GRS has that too. It really is best to practice free-hand scroll design. Knives have shapes that no template will adequately cover. In the end, the easiest approach boils down to study and practice. I thought GRS had som scroll templates you could use. That may help you get started. Like circle or ellipse template of various sizes of scrolls.
If not, for practic just trace designs you have seen and like from other engravers on practice plates. |
