Washington DC...A Non-Knife Friendly City.
Just got back from DC with the family. I mistakenly carried a knife one day. Several times I had to hide my knife in landscaping around the buildings.
Here is a list of places I went that you should not bring a knife.
All the Smithsonians. The Air and Space Museum has a metal detector you have to walk through. All the others will search your bags.
The Ronald Regan Building (went in there for lunch) Metal detector.
The White House has no tours unless you are with a school.
The Bureau of Engraving and Printing (I was not surprised they had a metal detector).
The Washington Monument, checked your bags.
Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam War Memorial and Korean War Memorial...no restrictions.
Jefferson Memorial...no restrictions.
MT Vernon (George Washington's home) all bags were checked.
We didnt make it to the Capitol or Arlington National Cemetery. I suspect they would at least check your bags as well, the Captiol probably had a metal detector.
On a personal note, I was saddened to see that the Smithsonian's had very few knives and wha they did have were factory. There were more knives at Mt. Vernon than in all the Smithsonians.
