White Teak Burl Wood
I recently purchased a nice block of the White Teak Burl. I have owned a sailboat and had some experiece with teach and it tends to be a naturally oily wood. My question is does it need to stabilized? I have a chamber and easily do this but I just do not know if it is necessary. Thank you all for your help.

Remember that mankind has been using unstabilized wood for handles as long as we've been making and using knives....
That said, many woods benefit from being stabilized, but oily woods tend to be poor candidates for it. The oils that cause them to be poor candidates make them need it less however, as they displace and resist moisture without any additional help from stabilizing, this is why teak is often used in marine applications. __________________ A good friend told me one time about forging "What is there not to like, you get to break all the rules you were told as a kid, don't play with that it is sharp, don't play with fire, and don't beat on that" Wade Holloway See some of my work. |
