What would you do??
Okay, here's a dilemma I didn't think I'd have to face: a client asked me to make a knife and have an inscription engraved. Problem is, the phrase contains two grammatical errors. Would you point that out to your client and risk making him feel stupid for not knowing how to spell simple words, or would you just leave it and engrave it exactly how he wanted it? Maybe the errors are some sort of inside joke, and he knows full well that there are mistakes in it? If you just leave it and engrave it exactly how he has asked you to do it, anyone seeing your work may say "nice knife, but he can't spell worth s**t"...

Just ask him. If it's on purpose he'll tell you, if not he'll appreciate you letting him know before someone else points it out on a finished blade. Just be up front.

Yup, you have to ask, because in the end it's your name on the line. Just like a tattoo artist, when something is wrong its the artist's work that's noticed. And just like in this "business" same with tattoos, your name whether you make an incredible product or not, is what is important.

I knew a guy who had "physco" tattooed on his leg. I'm sure he wishes someone pointed it out ahead of time.

You think that tat was brutal. The military has been cracking down on them; making sure that there are no gag tats being worn by applicants. When I was living in Virginia the Norfolk paper had an article about this. One you man came into a local recruiter with a Chinese character on his shoulder. He said it meant manly. The photoed it and sent the picture to one of their offices to confirm that. What it actually meant was prostitute. Now that was a brutal tatoo.

Well, I took your advice and mentioned it - politely - to my customer. Haven't heard back yet (e-mail order from somewhere down south...). I hope I didn't offend him...
