State Sales Taxes
I know this is kinda an open question because every state will be differnet, but what is involved in getting sales tax to the state? Do you actually need to be setup as a company and/or apply for something from the state?

The short answer is "yes." In Michigan, getting set up is all handled at the county level.

Sales tax
Here in KY the State will take care of it alright, they dont care what you call your self or how you are organized, wheter you are a "hobbyist" or a "business," or if you even SELL anything. The tax man comes around at the public shows and hands out a paper that says basically, "we know you were here trying to sell something so you better send us the money if you do." They get a list of vendors from the show promoters. Of course, you may already have a tax ID number with the State, in which case you have to file a quarterly return for sales tax.

Good info Richard!
How do you guys handle sales tax when doing "out-of state" shows? Do you obtain a venders ####### for each state, then file quarterly returns all year...even if the show was just one weekend. ...Or is there a simplier solution such as a "temporary trade show #######" where it is just a one shot deal that expires in a week or so. Sincerely, Rob |

my wife does one show a year in WA state. they have a form that she fills out to send in with her check for the sales tax. one shot deal there, but your results may vary in other places.

At the Blade Show, the exhibitors' packets (provided by the promoters) include a form for tax for the State of Georgia.
