My trip to the Guild show

Just got back and my wife and I had a great time. We went over Friday and spent the night.Since this is the sheath forum, I'll talk about my other favorite subect. As usual I saw many of Sandy's sheaths, great as always. Karen Shook had a beautiful batch of her primitive style sheaths, and it still amazes me how to make something brand new look so old. I also got to meet a maker named Carlton Evans who had a table full of our own Paul Long (aka Sheathmaker) sheaths. Paul, all I can say is you do some very nice work, very nice. It still saddens me though that many knifemakers either don't sell sheaths with their knives or make very genaric sheaths and keep them under the table. They should realize that a quality sheath can not only help sell the knife but for more money.

The best part of the trip for me and Linda was hanging out and drinking coffee this morning with Sandy. He had called me earilier in the week saying he was coming down for the show and we arranged to meet this morning. We have known each for ages but had never met in person. We hung out and BS'ed for about an hour and half. They don't come much better than Sandy and we are blessed to have him for a friend.

Sounds like you had a great trip Dave. Some day I'll get down to that neck of the wood.

Selling a knife with out a sheath!, is, well, like a hug with out a squeeze! It's just not right.

Dave; Sounds like you had a really fine time at the show. I'm glad you ran into Carlton. He makes some really fine knives and it has been a pleasure to supply him with all his sheaths for over a year. He uses quite a few....I think his count is nearing a hundred or better. He is one of the makers that agrees with you that a knife sale should include a sheath. He sells quite a few just sheaths and I think that's great too. Boy, I have been lucky this past year with Carlton's travels. He promotes my sheaths and includes them in his advertising so I've had the benefit of quite a few new repeat customers come on line. I got an email from Him this afternoon and he said he also got to meet and visit with Sandy also. If I'm still around you can bet I'll be at Blade and the Guild Show next year. I've got to shake the hands of the great bunch of guys I've met on this forum. Glad you had a great time and I look forward to reading your next post.

Paul
