Logo Etching Question

For all of you that use damascus, after you etch in your logo and before you acid etch the blade, what can you do to avoid "losing" the logo in the pattern? After I etched my logo, acid etched, and put on the handle, I realized that I probably could've put nail polish over the logo to resist the acid etch? Am I right or does anybody else have any other ideas?

Jeff

Yes Jeff, Your right. Polish will work. Ive tried it and I know many others have also. Ron Duncan is the one that got me to using it and his logos look super on a Damascus blade. Robert (Roosko) I believe uses it for a resist when creating a nice hamon line. Looks pretty cool.

I like to do a very fast etch first to get the pattern to come up very lightly. Then, use the resist on the area where the logo will be and do the rest of the etch. This way, the pattern is behind the logo faintly which, to me, looks better than a shiny spot on the blade.....

Thank you for all of the replies. Ray, I like your idea so there is at least a hint of the pattern behind the logo. Next damascus knife I create, I will do that.
