Thumbs up love ironwood

Picked up a blank at the show in Denver. And some ironwood from Pop's. The result. brass, ironwood, maroon liners, 3" mirror polished blade of Soligen SS, 61/8" OAL. Ironwood rules! Gotta get some more now.

Finally I learned something. Hand sand instead of Griz sanding. Quicker in the long run, don't have to continually redo mistakes. Charlie

Nicely done Charlie and a VERY nice piece of ironwood.

I do have to ask though since this is the Newbies arena if you are taking proper precautions when sanding ironwood? Ironwood is one of those woods whose dust can be dangerous even life threatening - it can cause an incurable type of pneumonia.
Anyway not trying to spread fear but just hope that all newbies read and learn about the potential dangers inherent when working with so many of the materials used by knife makers.
(FYI - Due to NOT taking proper precautions when younger I am now not only sensitized to a great many chemicals, but also have an incurable liver disease caused in part by breathing all kinds of crap such as toluene, etc.)

OK now I'm off my soapbox and once again nicely done!

Thanks Chuck. Taking all precautions, been reading these posts for a long time and learned a lot, including how to "dress" for grinding.

Now if I could just make a good sheath. Got a passable one though, black non-sewn sheath, (saw how to make it on these forums). It's just for me as an EDC anyhow, and works good.

yea.. the grizz can quickly ruin a handle or anything else that touches it.. like a fingernail and some skin.. (dont ask how I know..).. I worked with ironwood for the first time on my last project.. it was very nice to work with and really makes a classy looking knife.
