Scandinavian stuff
Hello there folks,
I have been attending the British Blade Forums and found out a new world of great people from Europe to talk to. I had very warm wellcomes all over and made some new friends and met new makers. Thanks everybody, you know who you are! One of them has become quite a nice talk everyday, his name is Johan Braadland from Norway and we chat often through MSN Messenger. He has been buying laminated blades from Mr. Trond Pedersen, one of the leading guys on Norway, and works them out on his local knifemakers club. He is also learning how to forge in order to make his own blades... so I would say he is someone to look out for in the future. The guy has been making those knives for liittle over an year now and I am pretty taken by his fit and finish on handles and for the burls he uses. I also like the roughness of the blades he mounts. His prices are very good too! And I think they are going up sometime in the future. Here is one sample I got from his website: As usual, all comments are greatly apreciated, as well as any constructive critics. What is great is that they (scandinavians) are refined that design for centurys. One can hardly find more practikal knife for everyday use. And this simple design is good starting point for making an "art knife".

I used to deislike the looks of them at first, but once you see how confortable they are, you realize they were in fact perfected through time... and as you said, it is a good starting point for an art knife. I have seen some made all the way through by Trond Pedersen that would just blow you away!
I am taken I must admit. |

Thanks jeff! As said, my name is Johan and i usually makes the scandinavian style. Also called "puukkos". I have made knives for almost two years. Have used those two years, i promise you..
Im working on some hidden tangs hunters too. In the scandis the blade, handle and sheath flows together. Usually the blade and handle have the same "line". Thats one of the things thats so good with scandinavian. They are so simple. I just wanted to give you some words from me too! Best Regards Johan __________________ Johan Braadland Jbcustomknives.com SITE IS UP SOON ! please check in soon. |
