This year United Way charity knife
Hi guys,
Last year I made a knife for my companies United Way charity raffle (mine isn't quite good enough for an auction, got a ways to go). Just finished it up last night and I thought I see what you guys thought of it. Sorry, my picture skills aren't the best. Its Thunderforge twist with dovetail 416 bolsters ad pins. The buckeye burl is off cut to make a grain that is similar to the twist in the damascus and contrasted with a black spacer. The sheath is hand stitched brown ostrich leg with pig skin lining. The sheath was modeled after the style Don Cowles uses for his gent carries, even got the clip from him . Over all length is just under six inches, perfect pants pocket size. I'm working on my own style of gent carries and Don had been not only a major inspiration but also has offered a great deal of advice on going about this. Also helping was Bob Doggett with some very helpful advice on grinding the blades. Any advice or comment on improving are welcomed, Jim |

All I can say is, Let's get a good photo! It looks like a great knife. Well done!

Thanks Steve,
I unfortunately am not a photographer. I'm still working on how to take good shots and with the help of the guys in the photo forum I'm getting better....slowly. Jim |

Much better! Thank you for taking the time to get a nicer photo. It looks like it will do well. Did it sell yet?

Thanks Steve,
I don't have much of a name to draw big money for auctions; this is going up for a raffle. Last years brought over $300 in ticket sales. Hopefully this will work out for them as well this year. Jim |

Too bad about that 'must be present to win' thing.

Just a follow up on the raffle. They collected over $400 at last count. The winner WAS going to give it to his brother in law but changed his mind after getting it.

That's great and for a great cause. Hope they appreciate the work and care that went into the knife.
