Arrow "Model of the Week (Week 5 Model 5)

Hi all!

Sorry we mods have been more than a week late starting this thread. No excuses!

However, it never too late to see our fellow RMK lovers' Randalls.

So I'll start her up with my relatively new #5-6, which has a 6" stainless blade, thumb notches, stag handle with finger grips, brass single hilt, brass butt cap, brass and red spacers, and a wrist thong.

Let's see yours! 8o

Cheers!

David

Now that is one fine looking #5 you got there, Moosie. If you ever want to part with it, let me know. The stag is fantastic.

Silly question, but can you "view" the piece of stag for your knife before finger grips are added?

I love finger grips, but I think I would have preferred that piece of stag without grooves. It is one of the best looking pieces I have seen.

Here are, I hope, 2 5-4's, a 5-7 and a 5-8.

The four inch models, one has a rough stag handle, the other smooth stag. The 7 inch has a maroon micarta handle and the 8 inch a red/black micarta.

If I can not get the pics to appear, David or any of the moderators please do so for me.

I can not get the 5-4 pics to upload, nor can I post the 5-8. Moderators please help, I am going to have a BEER or THREE!!!!

Boblade? Where are you?,
I hope Ron hammers in here, but I'll get the ball rolling. Historically: The Model #5 "Camper" came about at the end of WWII, I believe. It is pictured in a catalog photo in 1945, but I cannot recall any photos before this time period. At one time it was also referred to as a "Yachtsman". When I was a pup, doing this Randall thing a little more "part time" than now, it was also called the "Bradford Angier Camp and Trail" knife. This was named for the famous wildilfe and outdoor author. I am sure someone can research through the old Randall catalogs and find out exactly when the name was shortened. This model is basically a single hilt version of the good ol' Model #1, with the exception of: No top bevel sharpened (although it can be ordered as such): No cut out in front of the hilt on the top of the blade.
On a "local", i.e. "Florida" note, Ross Allen, the famous herpotologist at Florida's "Silver Springs" used a 6" Model #5 almost exclusively, if memory serves me correctly. I remember going there as a kid and watching him "milk" rattlers. Way cool!! (probably shouldn't use terms like "way cool" when making historical notes about Randalls but: That's all just part of the charm! Trust me: At 12 years of age, Ross Allen was ..."Way Cool"!!
I have emailed a couple of interesting Model #5's to the Moose. (Sorry, raindog, I lost your email address..please send it to me again and I will try to store it where I can find it). Perhapd Moose can place them within this post. Best for now, Captain Chris Stanaback

Well, Randallman, you just inadvertantly revealed that you are NOT who I thought. If you are disguised as a mild mannered Randall collector in your other life, then you can't be the Mooseman! Just yesterday he posted his wish for a fighter that he could amputate an arm with. If that's mild mannered, I fear meeting one who is aggressive and in a bad humor most of the time The search continues for the mild mannered Randall collector

Seuss! I'm stunned, amazed, and just plain flabbergasted that you have been thinking such thoughts!

I'm also humbled at the thought that anyone could suspect that our illustrious ordinary superhero could possibly be me. Pish, Tosh!

I'm also not sure if I should be deeply offended by the fact that you could possibly have thought that I am MILD MANNERED!

Sheesh! I may have to go out and swat a mosquito, while there are still some left around these here parts! :evil

Grrrrr!

Moosehead

P.S. As some of you already know I have met Randall Man, but I too have no idea of his secret identity. And thanks RM for posting Cap's #5s

Don't have a #5 yet but have one on order due to be here next April.

OK, picture this: #5-7, tool steel, double brass (#1 style) guard, black & brass spacers, stacked leather grip with r/h finger grooves and brass butt cap w/lanyard hole. Standard model A sheath.

Can I get an "Amen"?

tom

Here is a pic of my mod.5 user. I bought it used, but never used it. I tried to ask about trading it for a Mod.1 user on the other forum, but was told that was strictly forbotten, 'specially for a non member type.
