Is this really the way to do it?

The posts are gone with no warnings and as most know, folks look at these for some time but when they are gone one day, it is over to most parties. Is this really the way to do this?

Dave,
The threads are still there. The default is for the forums to show threads from the last two weeks. That means that when a thread has not had a reply in two weeks, it drops off the display list. But it's not gone. There's two ways you can change this. One is temporary and the other is permanent.

To temporarily change the settings
  • To temporarily see older threads go to the forum you are interested in and scroll down near the bottom where you'll see an options box labeled "Display Options".
  • In that options box there is a drop down menu labeled "From the:", with a default setting of "last 2 weeks".
  • Drop that menu down and set it to what you want. It can be anywhere from threads from the last day through the beginning of the forums. Then click the button beside the drop down menu that is labeled "Show Threads".

This method lets you view older threads in the "current" forum. With this method, when you come back later the forum will be set right back to the default of 2 weeks.

-------

To permanently change the settings
You can also permanently change the settings from your User Control Panel. Near the top of the forums is a series of links. Look for the one that says "User CP". This takes you to your User Control Panel.
  • In the control panel on the left find and click the link that says "Edit Options".
  • Then scroll down to the area labeled "Thread Display Options". In this box is a drop down menu labeled "Default Thread Age Cut Off". Drop that menu down and select the thread age that you want to always see.
  • Then scroll down near the bottom of the page and click the button labeled "Save Changes".
This method sets you to view older threads (the age specified by you) in all forums, and this one is permanent -- unless you choose to go back later and change the setting again.

-------

You have a lot of control over what you see and how you see it.
