W2 Tool Steel For Sale

Guys, I'm selling W2 round stock. This is the same W2 I use in my blades and it's from a 1500 pound batch I got a few years ago (just got in another giant batch). W2 is no loger being made and is getting hard to find. Press or power hammer will knock this stock down pretty quick, but the two smaller sizes are easily forged by hand.

3/4'' round 11'' long $5.00 ea. shipped minimum 15 bars($75) (25 bars for $110)SOLD OUT

7/8'' round 11'' long $7.00 ea. shipped minimum 10 bars($70) (20 bars for $120)SOLD OUT

1'' round 11'' long $8.50 ea. shipped minimum 10 bars($85) SOLD OUT

1-1/8'' round 11'' long $11.00 ea. shipped minimum 8 bars($88) (16 bars for $160)SOLD OUT

1-1/4'' round 10'' long $12.00 ea. shipped minimum 6 bars($72) (12 bars for $134)SOLD OUT

Price includes shipping.

Thanks!

That's a very interesting question Robert. My three favorite steels for forged blades with hamon are W2, 1086M and W1. I will not let my inventory of W2 get below 500 lbs, so when I can't get anymore, I'll have this much to work with. I also have around 400 lbs of 1086M from Howard Clark (not for sale) and it acts a lot like W2. I guess when I run out and can't get W2 or 1086M, I'll be using W1. The simple carbon steels are not being made as much and are slowly disappearing from the market. Also, the USA is no longer a giant steel producer like it once was. This is sad but true

As a side note, I was not planning on selling much W2 but I had so many emails and phone calls from makers that wanted some, I thought I would make it available. So now is a good time to stock up

Hey Don.....how much would you charge to knock those bars down to a smaller size and longer length? I'm a newbie and am strictly a hammer and anvil guy. Tried to forge out a round bar of O1 once and didn't get very far.

jdm61, I will forge down to 1/4''x1-1/2'' for an extra charge. I still need to cut it to 11'' to fit in the USPS flat rate boxes but if you need it longer we can work something out.

Thanks,

Thanks for your response, Don. I would be willing to pay extra for the shipping if i could get longer lengths. My tong forging skills are somewhat suspect so i prefer a long bar...3 feet is best by 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 by oversized 1/4 or maybe 3/8., but at least 30 inches long so i don't burn my little piggies i would suspect that doing from the round bar might be easier but more time consuming, so if the price goes up a bit more, that also would not be a problem I would really like to try some of the mysterious/legendary W2 out, especially since what i am using now (5160, 1075/80, and O1) is either pricey in the case of the PG or inconsistent. By they way, are you going to be at the fall hammer-in at the school?

jdm61, no plans to be at the hammer-in, too much to do around here. I just forged out two 36'' bars of W2, 1-1/2'' to 1/3/4'' wide by 5/16'' to 3/8'' thick. Lota work, wish I had a larger hammer. I will need $30 per bar if you're interested, I can forge a few more but I can't do very many. Email me if you want them and we can set it up.

Thanks!

I have only 30 bars of the 1''x11'' W2 left. Still have a good bit of the 1-1/4''.

I need to add $1.00 or so per bar to help with cutting, packaging and shipping but have been holding off as long as possible, will have to soon though.

Also, I will have some 7/8'' round soon...........for you light weight forgers

Thanks again for all your business guys.

W2

Just added a new size..... 7/8'' round 11'' long $7.00 shipped minimum 10 bars.

Robert, I will not need to go with a different steel, I now have enough W2 to keep me forging blades for long time

Guys, I've sold out of the 1'' round but have edited my first post to add a new size, 1-1/8'' round W2.

Still have a good bit of 7/8'' and 1-1/4''

Thanks!

The 7/8'' is all gone, I do have a good bit of the other sizes. The smaller W2 is going quick and I can't find anymore, so when it's gone, it's gone.

Happy New Year and thanks,
