Sort of a cleaver (santoku?)... finished!

Well, I finished another knife last night. The blade is S30V, handles are Lava Flow Kirinite, with Micarta pins. It's not perfect by any means, but I'm very happy with it, especially considering this is my first knife after a seven year hiatus.

Very nice. I don't think I'd call it a santoku but, whatever it is, it looks interesting ...

Well, you made it so you get to call it whatever you wish. But, to me, wharncliffe blades have much more rounded tips. Yours resembles a sort of razor. There is a knife called a Razel, I believe, that is almost identical in the blade shape. Also, yours has grind lines which you may find on a wharncliffe but never on a true santoku. Of course, a santoku is a kitchen knife while wharncliffe blades and Razels (a registered brand name) aren't as a general rule. If yours is a kitchen knife then maybe call it a Nakiri. I make a Nakiri has a similar blade shape. No doubt, there are probably many other knife types yours resembles. What you decide to call it will depend as much on the intended use as on the blade shape....

Ray, as you mentioned earlier, it's also a little like an exaggerated version of your "Rayzor" style.

I'm gonna have to say not even remotely, other than they are both sharp I assume.
But that is a sweet looking blade....regardless of what you want to call it.

I JUST finished profiling, beveling and heat treating one just like yours. I found a pic on the web that I liked. It looks like a giant straight razor........

5160, will have teak scales. I will most likely etch the blade. I ran across a pic of a knife like this and I replicated the design.... Loved the razor/cleaver look

I think it would be much more accurate to call that a cleaver rather than a razor. Looks like it would be effective ....
