Making An Anvil Out of Forklift Fork
Hello All,
I have read on some other forums about using a forklift fork to make an anvil. I would like to hear anyone's opinions or suggestions on using this in making an anvil. |

My opinion is that a forklift tine would be a little on the thin side, unless it's different from what I'm thinking. It would put the mass of the anvil under the work and therefore be more efficient than railroad track. My favorite for something to repurpose as an anvil would just be a block of steel, even a round one. Check on Ebay. I got a 87 lb block or H13 for around $140 including shipping. Of course if the forklift tine was free that would also have to figure into the deal.

A big block of h13 makes a really decent anvil!
As far as the forklift tine goes, if you don't mind a small faced anvil you could sink it into a bucket of concrete and use the thicker end for the face. I have seen other people do that and it works pretty good because the mass of the tine is all beneath the "face" __________________ J, Saccucci Knives, JSK |

They work very well as J has described. I welded one to a stand made of I-beam for support and mobility. Excellent small face anvil, you just have to be good with a hammer....no room to be a sloppy wayler. Gave that thing away, bad move as it was great for smaller blade finesse work.
