3 character minimum search length?

I just spent half an hour looking for the heat treat specs on D2. Problem is, I couldn't search for D2, since vBulletin requires three characters minimum for a search. Makes it pretty hard to find things on D2, O1, A2, etc.

I'm pretty sure there's a way around this (D2* didn't work) but I can't figure it out. Could someone tell me the trick, or could the minimum search length be made 2 instead?

Thanks.

I'd like some tips on this too, Jamey. When I was looking for O1 heat treat threads I had the same problem. I had to take the long way around and just read through EVERYTHING that had to do with heat treating and filter through it looking for specific threads/comments about O1. The bad news is it took hours. The good news is that I learned some other stuff along the way too. A client of mine calls it "the dustbunny effect".

I used the string D2* and got 42 matches. For O1* I got 20 matches.

Are you using the * wildcard in the little drop-down search? If you want to use the asterisk as a wildcard, use the Advanced Search.

Thanks Terry. I thought I'd tried that and got no results (from the Advanced Search). I'll try it again.

Hi Guys.
Sorry I missed this post.

Yes, the character minimum is in effect to stop attacks on the script. Definitely use the wildcard system if you need to search for shorter strings.

Thanks, Alex. I knew there had to be a rationale behind it, I just didn't know what it was. I shoulda known it was just you looking out for us!
