Picking the right belts
Hello everyone, first and formemost let me introduce myself as this is my first post - my name is Tony and I'm from CT. I have been looking to dive into knife making for a bit so here goes. My first question I'm sure of many is, what series of sanding belts is best for "sharpening". I have a 1x30 sander and figured learning to sharpen old knives is a good place to start.
If your bored and wanted to recommend belts for future grinding that would be awesome. I have been looking at supergrit.com and was leaning towards the silicone carbide but wanted to ask first for recommended grits. If you have other websites please share. Thanks for any and all advice, I will be reading and learning. Last edited by acampane; 02-16-2015 at 07:02 AM. |

For sharpening I like the cloth backed belts, I usually start with 120# then go to a 320# and then a 600# and I like to wind up with a leather belt.
I do all my sharpening freehand with a slack belt on the 1X30 sander. Finishing technologies and Pop's knife supplies are 2 that I use. Pat |
