3 Tomahawks

Here are a couple shots of the wrap-eye tomahawks I made for Christmas presents.
This was my first go at it and they were a lot of fun:

Though they are no where in the same league, I want to thank Alan L for being so open with his information and instruction, both at the hammer-ins and on the forums.
Things go a lot smoother when you?ve got good teachers.

Also, I want to thank Rade Hawkins at Hawkins Knife Making Supply for his prompt service.
I managed to wait until the 19th to worry about getting a drift and handles, but Rade gott?em to me with time to spare.

Those look great, Don! Now you're hooked, aren't you?

What'd you make 'em out of, stock size and all that?

Alan,

Here?s what I had on hand:

The flat is ? x 1 ?" (maybe 1?) . Actually, it?s a stabilizer from the 3-point hitch of an old bush hog.

The edge bit came from an old file. The welds went great.

I have now submitted them to rigorous field testing.
Two went to my nephews (13 & 15) and one to my son (14).
I can?t help but to wince when I see them beating, bouncing, throwing and chopping, but, hey, that?s what I made ?em for.
If these hold up, I?ll know I?m on to something.

Yeah? I?m hooked.

Don

They look good Don. Alan's da man!!!!!

Forging and fitting hafted tools is a great way to expand your skills and experience. I think alot of knife makers are under utilizing alot of thier expensive shop equipment by just sticking to knives. It's more fun to mix it up a bit a try something different.

Don

Those are very nicely done. I would agree, it appears you are hooked now for sure.

It sounds as if you have your own in house destructive testing crew. I'll bet if you asked them, those tomahawks are their favorite Christmas Gifts.
