What is this?

I've seen this picture of David Boye many times. He seems to be standing in the desert making knives, presumably.

What the heck kind of grinder is that beast he is working at?



I also see on the Boye website that their shop burned to the ground on the 3rd. Best wishes to them as they re-build.

I've seen similar grinder setups used in industrial applications, it grinds both sides of the blade at once, I think. I've never seen one out in the middle of the desert though....

I need to find my copy of his book, bought back in 92...
