Blue Ridge Tribal Hammer-In--Mt. Airy, NC

Bobby suggested Saturday, January 18th as a good day for a hammer-in. If any of y'all are interested, we can have it at my shop in Mt. Airy, N.C.

We sort of play fast and loose at these gatherings, with an agenda at times and at others, catch as catch can. If y'all want to do it here's some items that you can bring.

1) Your own basic forging tools--tongs, hammers, hot cutters, punches, etc., safety equipment, gloves, etc. the stuff you're used to using or would like to learn to use. I don't have enough to outfit everybody. Be sure to mark it clearly with your name, as I won't be responsible for keeping up with your stuff, however if you leave something, I'll use it til you come back for it.

2) Appropriate gear for the weather.

3) Food and drink--I'll try to make a pot of chili to go around, y'all bring the chips, bread, drinks, and any other goodies you can think of--some paper bowls and spoons would be very cool.

4) Something to sit upon might be good too. The NC ground in January can be hard and cold.

5) Liquor and women--just seeing if you're paying attention. :evil

6) Current projects you might need help with--we'll try to accomodate. These types of gatherings are good for getting manual labor chores out of the way with lots of help and good cheer--always a good setting for getting that leaf spring cut.

7) Trade goods--sometimes it becomes a swap meet.

8) Camera and film--digital is good, so's we can post pics on the forum of all our antics.

9) Lots of show and tell items--let's see some of the stuff you've made.

10) Fuel! Coal, charcoal, wood--we'll need plenty of fuel.

Y'all in?

If I can swing a free day on the 18th I will be there.

How does that song go?...

"here comes that old traveling Jones once again"

Will bring a good wood splitter for chopping fuel.

I'm gonna be bringing a knife to harden in the forge as well. Gonna try clay.

heyDana how far is Mt, Airy from Raleigh?

I have friends in Raleigh and we get out to see them about every 6 months or so. I would love to come out and see you if we could arrange it the next time I make it to NC.

Plays with fire, Mt. Airy is about a 2 1/2 hour drive from Raleigh? Holler if you need directions--it would be great to meet you and have you hang out with us.

Hey Ron, Good to hear from you. Knoxville is about 4 hours driving time from Mt. Airy. We'll probably be outside, but then again that depends on the weather. But lately it's been 50's - low 60's during the day, so that would work fine for being outside.

Hey Ron,
Hope you can make it to Mt. Airy.

Dana,
What time are things getting started? Boo mentioned getting an early start, and since it is a 2 hour drive for me, the sooner we get started the more fun we can cram into one day.

I hate to bring this up, but just in case the weather goes South, as in SNOW AND/OR ICE, what would be a better make-up day Sat., Jan 25 or Sat., Feb 1? I'm open for either day. Rain doesn't count. We'll have it in the rain, but not if the driving could be hazardous. Hopefully none of the above will be a problem.
