Model 12 Bowies
Let's kick start this thread again with some sweet Model 12 knives again!
(I wish the moderators would continue on with the "Knife Model of the Week" sticky thread)
I'll start with an original condition 12-9" Sportsman's Bowie from 1954, one of the earliest to be built. Original Clarence Moore scabbard and grey stone complete the package.
I hope that everybody can appreciate a vintage used knife, since there were not many "collectors" of these knives during this period. They were designed, built, purchased and ultimately used as intended.

Now that's a knife!
It looks like it is just dying to whack some wrong-doer on a sand bar. Moore sheath, I agree about 1954, maybe early '55. Mr. Randall made a surprising number of Bowies in that first year after the movie was released.
Not much has been written about Bowies in the literature or on-line, except in the "dating..." line on this site. Hunt's book has the best collection of photos and commentary. That is a mean looking knife for the serious minded... I like it.

Your knife looks much like my 12-9. This Randall knife has a interesting history. I was owned by George Urick who spent 22 months in Vietnam. I am attaching a photo of his letter about the knife, I note he did misspell knife in the letter. The knife was one of three sent in 1965, apparently this is the only one to survive. Mr Urick is mentioned on page 108 in the book " Officer, Nurse, Woman: The Army Nurse Corps in the Vietnam War" by Kara Dixon Vuic. I am sure as a nurse who was not allowed to carry a firearm the Randall model 12 was a comfort. Still in beautiful shape, considering it was in country, though it has obviously seen use it is well preserved. Apologies for the less than stellar photography, it snowed again last night so I was not going to take this outside.
