That does look real old. How old do you think it is? What do you think he ment when he said "the handle says it all"? What is the handle saying that the blade doesn't say?

I would probably date the knife to 1800,give or take 20 years. "the handle says it all"? the knife is a pierced brass handled cartouche knife, people familiar with this knife can spot it from 30 feet away. the blade is a standard butcher shape common to the time period,a wood handle appeared on most knives of the time period.

That's unreal on the price it brought.
I wouldn't give 19 cents for it no matter how old it is.

I used to be like you. Who would want a rusty knife that you don?t even want to touch cause it looks so nasty. Then one day a special person had showed me a different point of view. His point of view is that old rust knife has been, seen, and done a lot of thing and is still around. The beauty is in the history and the fun that takes you back to a different time. It both very interesting and moving. Plus image the bragging rights do you own a knife that was made in the 1800?s? How many people do you think own knives that are that old? Here is another question, how good do you think you will look after 200 years of a hard life? 19 cents is an insult to something as beautiful and wonderful as that knife. I think it is a wonderful find and I?m pleased that Shakudo shared it with us, plus what I have learned from that knife is priceless. I don?t mean to sound harsh I just want to show you the priceless beauty in that knife. I apologize I?m not a very tactful person.
