Out of the ordinary fun project........

Laying this dude out was a real brain twister. Once one side was done the other was a little easier. I actually think there is more engraving on this Celtic style of cutting than on the regular stuff I do. My client wanted something a little different with the gold dots?.This design is what I came up with. This design goes well, I think, with this little Centofante knife?kind of reminds me of a Scottish Stocking Knife?.Skein Du. If you have any questions?.just ask.
Jim

Beautiful basket weave design, Jim.
Great depth and texture illusion.
Your gold dots are just amazingly precise.
Another lucky owner!!
John.

I appreciate the post of something a little less traditional than scrolls and such.It looks great on this knife and agree it looks a little Scot.

That is extraordinary, Jim! I can understand your point of it being even more complicated. With all that symmetry there is no room for error.

The dots are buried treasure!

Looks great Jim. I like that little borders on each piece inside the engraving. Nice touch. Thanks for showing it.

Joe

Cool piece. The basket weave and and the brown wood is nice! The gold dots gives it a "scottish" style. Perfect!

Thanks for the nice comments....
Ron, To answer your question the eyes were a little crossed upon finishing. I have enclosed a picture of a practice plate I started with. I took the design from the Silver ring to the right....Made a practice plate and took a pull and transfer and moved to the knife. The reason I did the practice plate....no.1 to see if I could do it or keep it all together and no.2....if it worked, then I would have something to use as a transfer. I found that there are probably more engraving cuts in this piece than some of the regular scroll work I do. Anyway, the client will receive it Monday and we will see what he thinks.
Thanks
Jim

Jim,
Your shading strokes are they parallel with the upper crossing piece or perpendicular to it. Also how did you do the holes for the gold dots.

Thanks

Joe

Count me among the "kudos" on this one Jim.. Someone is going to be very happy when they get this baby.. The design seems to go with the wood scales so well, hard to explain really, but it gives the whole knife an organic feel... (Sheese, must be the "Calif." coming out in me... ) Best, Rich

I'm the owner, and I can't tell you how happy I am with the result. Jim has engraved other knives for me, but this time I wanted a different style and he outdid himself.
