Question Gerber Knife Finish

A few years ago I bought a Gerber folder, its been my daily knife ever since. I notice that the blade has a grey coating, almost like its annodized. I think its done so its doesn't rust and it pretty durable. Is it possible for me to finish my knife like that?

I have an older Gerber folder with a gray matte finish which looks very similar to finishes I obtain by glass bead blasting after sanding to about 600 grit.
