Mexican loop sheath
Here's one I finished for the Blade show.
Another pic of it with some of my gun leather. |

Cliff, that is an eye catching combo, friend! Point in question---with enough guard for retention, why did you not bring the restraint strap across over the spine? Have seen enough of your work to appreciate your skill. ---Sandy---

Thanks everyone.
Sandy, I wanted to on that one but I did not feel there was enough guard for retention so I put it there. That blade is a good bit larger in the middle than at the guard and has some rock to it that needs to be cinched with the strap. It just worked better to cinch the spine against the welt rather than the cutting edge. I guess I could have put more guard on the top of that one since that particular one takes on more of a fighter look with that sheath. I also considered wrapping the handle with the strap or a lace but they are kind of unhandy (more of a two handed deal) and I wanted the Sam Browne stud on it because it was the look I had in my head. That particular style knife I call the Bounty Hunter because its a hunter which also take on the look of a fighter and actually serves quite well at just about anything. I dont usually put much guard on the top of them because I despise a top guard on a hunting knife (its just in the way when dressing game) but I put a little guard on it so as to take on the duel purpose (no pun intended). |

Beautiful rig Cliff ! My guess is that Sandy's trained eye is correct, it looks like enough guard to provide good retention on the spine side. But either way, congratulations, great work

Thanks for the comments Mike but there's not enough guard on the top for the strap do to the required opening in the sheath, you would have to study it in person.
Hey Sandy, thanks for coming by to see me at Blade. It was an absolute honor to finally meet you in person and really enjoyed our chat. I wanted to catch up with you before we left but every time I saw you I got side tracked. |

Cliff, my friend, I know what you mean! Seems like I was parked on a siding most of the time!! Enjoyed our chat, looking for a repeat!

Gotcha Cliff, there's plenty of room for the strap to exit he body of the loop below the bottom guard, but not on the spine side. Well thought out

Yeh Mike, I guess thats what I was trying to say. If I swung it back behind the handle then its even harder to hold out of the way when sheathing the knife to keep the top edge from cutting it.
Plus that top guard lug is much stubbier than it looks in the pics. |

Hi Cliff - very nice looking sheath, it has an incredibly clean look to it. Thank you for putting it up.
